Comment:

I have a Windows 98 machine and when it boots up, I get the following messages:
1. Error loading C:\Progra~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~2.DLL
System can not find specified path.

2. Illegal Operation DW.exe

Any clues -

Thanks

I AM A TEC SUPPORT REP I HOPE THIS HELPS

How do I resolve the "Error: newdot~1.dll" error that may occur when I boot my system?

Error: newdot~1.dll

Discussion

This problem is related to an Internet browser plug in that enables your browser to access "nonstandard" top-level domains provided by New Net, Inc.; and which may be bundled with unrelated software. For Microsoft® Windows® 95, 98, and Millennium Edition users, the file is normally placed in C:\Windows\ directory, or for Windows NT® and 2000 users in the C:\WinNT directory; and runs at start-up through a Run key placed in the Windows registry.

This may affect you’re ability to link with some Web sites.

Solution

To remove the New.net plug-in, perform the following steps:

Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
The Control Panel window appears.
Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
Click the New.net application.
Click the Add/Remove button.
Once the program has uninstalled, click the OK button.
Click the Start button, click Shut Down, click Restart, and then click OK.
The New.net application is fully uninstalled after the system reboots.
The above steps will fully remove the New.net plug-in. However, the Windows operating system will retain a record that the New.net plug-in previously had been installed on your computer in C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files. This file is harmless, but can be removed by performing the following steps:

Double-click the Internet Explorer icon.
Click Tools and click Internet Options.
The Internet Options window appears.
Click the General tab.
In the Temporary Internet files section, click the Settings button.
The Settings window appears.
Click the View Objects button.
The Downloaded Program Files window appears.
Right-click Tldctl2c Class and click Delete.
Click the [x] in the upper right corner to close the Downloaded Program Files window.
Click the OK button within the Settings window.
Click the OK button within the Internet Options window.
Close Internet Explorer.

Check out this page for info on newdotnet and how to remove it manually if needed.

http://cexx.org/newnet.htm

DW.exe is Microsoft's error reporting tool. Get info on that here.

After cleaning up the Newdotnet software the error for DW.exe will prob disappear to.

http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/two/admA05.htm

As far as the newdotnet being used to access some new domains, you may want to do your own research on that. I have found that it is a company that makes installers for many downloaded programs on the web. It installs itself then reports back to newdotnet so that thewy have a record of how many people used it that way they get paid. From what i understand they get 1 cent or something like that from the person who wrote the software everytime the program is installed with thier installer. It also shows up as Spyware.

I tried the first response and did not work -The only thing showing up in my add/remove was new.netdomain388. So i deleted it then went to the ie and did not see tldctl2c -

I also tried the second response but the first url is a dead page.

Any other suggestions
