I've had my cd-rw for about a year, but it seldom worked and hasent in at least a few months. I got a new DVD-RW a few days ago, with the hope that it would work. Unfortunatly, whenever I would burn a cd it would get to about 10% before the computer would immeadiatly restart and load as if i had pressd the restart button. As of now i have it set as the master with my older DVD-rom set as slave and i'm thinking that might be related to the problem.

Try disconnecting the old DVD rom drive and running the new one all by itself on the channel. Windows occasionally has problems with two optical drives on the same channel.
