I own a dvd rom out of a compaq 5284 but do not own a compaq . I need a driver for the above dvd . Allthe information available follows compaq p/n 320716-405 , ct718aco27rhj400 manuf. jan 99 ser#p9a534809 type bvct drive a1 firm rev0012 . Compaq denies existance and tells me I must buy compaq sys to use unit . I need info on manf, model ,or where iI can get driver

There should be a FCC code on the unit. Go here

And enter the number it should give all the details about the actual mfg.

I own a Compaq 5284, but my computer wont' recognize my DVD, my friend says that the device driver is missing. I copied the info from system info: COMPAQ DVD-ROM GD-2500. But it says that it is a basic cd rom. It used to be on there, but disappeared. When I put in a dvd or hit one of the DVD keys on my keyboard it doesn't work. Any Ideas???

I have tried the Hitachi driver also. It doesn't work. I am in the same boat. I updated my system to Windows ME (I too have a compaq 5284) and now it won't read DVDs.
Summary: So I installed w95 on my old machine and changed the 8x cd-rom with a 8x DVD-rom. (about 32x cd-rom equivalent), but w95 does not auto-detect like w98+ does it? How do I install it? ...
