DVD Rom DMA problem

I have just installed a DVD ROM in my PC and the help file says I should enable DMA in the device manager for optimum performance. When I go into the device manager the box is available so I click to place a tick in it and then restart. After restarting, the DVD sees all DVDs as audio files only. I'm confused and suffering with skipping on DVD playback. PC is a PII 450, 320mb SDRAM, 32mb AGP VGA card.

Thanks Ray - I had a feeling it may be a fault with the DVD.
