I'm using IE 5.5. I went to clear my temp folder and now have 3 folders there. Cookies, history, and temporary internet files plus a program Glb1a2b. I have OTHER folders of the same where they sould be, so I figured I'd delete the ones in the temp folder. As I tried to delete them, more files came up identified as system files. So, I did not delete them. Things work, but does anyone know what is going on here?

It would help if you can provide more description.
First, is the temp file the Temporary Internet Files or the Temp folder? Are you saying that each time you try to delete files from the folder, more files instantly appear, or files eventually appear? What files appear? Are they full files, shortcuts, exe's....? Is there a pattern to when these temp files appear?
In any case, you can zip the files as one bigger .zip file in the temp folder. If no consequences show after some time, then delete the zip file. Either that or remove the files/folders from temp to another folder that you create. Same thing....if no consequences after some time, then just delete.
Thoughts......
Where are they coming from? Cookies, History and Temp Internet files are something that are frequently deleted to make room for newer entries. Is it possible that something has changed (in the registry?) to redirect these deletions to the temp folder rather than the recycle bin? (Then why isn't everything deleted directed to temp?)The executable Glb1a2b sounds like something outside of Windows. It might something that would normally show up in the temp folder. If it keeps reappearing, you should be able to tell where it's coming from.

They are in my temp FOLDER. I empty my temp folder every couple of days, and have NEVER seen anything like this. If I do a file search on temporary internet files, I have three folders titled temporary internet located as follows.
C:\Windows 12/8/00
C:\Windows\TEMP 12/20/00
C:\Windows\Loc 12/8/00
The one in the TEMP folder has a subfolder labled content ie.5, and that folder has a subfolder labeled A7otwdkl. This last folder is all gif's, pages and such that you would normally find in a temporary internet folder. In fact, all three folders have the same information, with the exception of the A7otdkl folder. Now the new "system" seems to have been created on 12/20/00. Is there a way to see just what ocurred then?

I meant to state that only the TEMP folder temporary internet file folder has a folder named A7otdkl folder, the other two do NOT.

Is it possible that you installed 5.5 on 12/20 and the temp folder contains the original temp installing program files?

it appears that your browser cache (temporary internet files) is set up to use the system's TEMP folder (which is NOT the same as temporary internet files). this is why you see the Content IE.5 folder in there. the odd named "A7otdkl" folder is one created by the browser. it will create up to 5 of these, i think, all with very cryptic names, within the Content IE.5 folder. as you noticed, this is where it actually stores the cache files (the gifs, html pages, etc.). you can change the location of the browser cache in your internet settings (in IE, Tools>Internet Options).
