I know this probably seems really stupid and lame that i am putting this on this board, but my girlfriend is being harassed by an aim user who is from around here. I was curious if there is anyway to find out who he is, and if so how to do it. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. Any response is appriciated.

Aol is supposed to have some thing that you can use to report people who are being abusive. Have you tried to find it?

thanks for the help. I dont want to just tos him, or do anything like that, because that really wont solve anything, or make my girlfriend feel any safer. anyway, i was going to call aol, but i assumed that they gauronteed privacy, and i doubted that it was as easy as just calling in order to recieve the real name of someone's username. It couldnt hurt to try, thanks for all the help, i really appriciate it more then you know...

They cannont/will not give out info like that without a court order requiring them to do so. But they do know what IP that screen name is being used on, and also what phone number that IP was assigned to at that time. And with the phone number comes a name and address. BUT, naturally, you will never see that info. If you get a court order, the police will see it, which might not solve your problem, but at least it'll keep YOU out of jail for breaking the sorry SOB;s kneecaps =)

I had a laptop stolen once and it had my AOL passwords stored in it. I noticed that the moron started using my account, and I went through the above process. A week later there was an arrest =)
