Comment:

Whenever I try to customize my start menu using "advanced..." option in taskbar properties, I get the message "Component DSSOCK32.OCX not correctly registered. File is missing or invalid"
And right after that the same message for HTTP34.OCX.
As far as I know these ocx files are not defaults of Windows 98.
Does anyone have an idea about it?

I had exactly the same problem on my computer
and sadly it is caused by the icqkill trojan virus.I scanned it with the latest version of norton and it found it infected explorer.exe so i deleted it and everything is fine now.It must be pretty new because the last update of norton did not find it.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU if you didn't use icqkill it must be another problem...?

same thing happened here, downloaded ICQ Kill and it I tried to go to advanced and it said I needed that and some other file. I think it may have done that because if you searched for ICQ Kill in the registry, and deleted it, it was that file??? cause that is what I did.

i found out what dssock.ocx is it is an additional file that comes with win95 PLUS! or win98. It might be a trojan. Press ctrl+alt+del and if you see two explorers running then you have a trojan. One is fake if you see tqo explorers email me and i will tell you how to get rid of it. Instructions anyways...

Is this not part of the Active X pack from microsoft ? Active x has some serious security problems, go search the microsoft site, your hard drive can be wiped from a web site ! The problem lies with IE5 Favourites.
As for icqkill... it serves you right ! you will find many of these programs also carry a virus.. I know, as I got it too LOL.

Laters.....

To correct this problem download or use norton antivirus. This will correct the problem by removing the virus.

The dsSock.ocx is our product. The creator of ICQKiller, which isn't us, uses the demo version of the ActiveX control to send passwords and file information to them. The application is very poorly written and causes a number of problems beyond what it was intended to do. There are instructions for removing it on our Web site or use Norton. ICQKiller is considered a trojan horse and should be removed. Don't fix the error by putting more files on your system.
