Hello there.
I found this board while searching for a solution to a problem I am having. My modem started behaving in a weird way all of a sudden.
A few weeks ago it started disconnecting me from the internet giving me an error that stated "The DSP Code Could Not Be Uploaded" followed by "Error 1010, reason #4"
Now it does that every single time I am online, but I have noticed that as long as I am only surfing and not actually submitting information, it won't happpen.
So, it gives that error, and the first reconnection attempt I do, it says there is no dialtone. Then in the second attempt and the ones that follow, it connects and I can actually download pages and such, but it disconnects really soon without any error messages, as if the phone line itself had been cut.
I read somewhere else that it might have to do with a corruption in my modem's drivers, and indeed their installation was full of problems, still I don't know the origin of this error, and can't find it anywhere.
So, if anyone knows of a solution, please let me know. Should I reinstall the modem's drivers?

It sounds like you have a winmodem that is failing. The DSP code is the software that windows uploads to the Digital Signal Processor to MODulate/DEModulate the signal transferred over the phone. I would try a new driver first, but it sounds like the DSP chip may be failing.
Post back and let us know what happens..

Oh, there is a chip that controls it then? So it is entirely possible that this chip has worn out somehow? My modem is a year or two old.
I doubt there are new drivers, or that they would work on my machine. Reinstalling seems to be the way to go, but I will open it up and check first if I see something obviously wrong.

Yes,
There is a Digital Signal Processor which loads code and runs. If that chip fails to load the code, it won't work at all. Just for grins, did you try removing and reinstalling the card in the same slot?

Oh, so if the chip was ruined, I wouldn't connect at all? That is great news indeed!
Would removing and reinstalling in the same slot do anything at all? What would be the use of that?
I checked my drivers by the way, they are not corrupt or anything.

I uninstalled the modem and reinstalled it, even unplugged it and plugged it back, then uninstalled and reinstalled again.
For two days it worked perfectly. Today, for no apparent reason and without me installing anything at all, it started doing the EXACT same thing. Please, I need help, because I do not know if this is a virus of some sort, and I would rather not buy a new modem because I am in a tough situation right now, yet I NEED the modem. I seriously need a way out of this.

I was wondering if you have been able to resolve you problem as I am having the exact
same. Do you have a US Robotics 56K modem? Please let me know. I am at my wits end
with this too.
