you need an isp that offers this service in your area...you will also need a NIC in your pc...as in a network interface card or an ethernet card...your isp may offer this with the service in a bundled package.

The most you'll get out of your 56k is 112k. you'd have to buy a DSL modem to take full advantage of DSL speeds. Some providers may even give you the modem just for subscribing. Hope you get it ..you lucky dog!

The most you'll get out of your 56k is 53k. the 112k speed you see in the settings is Serial bus speed and has nothing to do with your modem. 53k is what the phone company limits the max speed to. You can't go any faster then that.

You WILL need a DSL modem, a 56k analog modem is not compatable with the DSL signal.

And you need to live within 3 miles of the phone switch to qualify for DSL service.

In my area the choice was DSL or cable. Cable offered so many freebies I had no choice (free NIC , free modem , free month ,free installation and one free month for each reccomendation). The condition was 1 full year signed up or penalties apply.
The difference was astounding .....compare a 286 to a pentium . I could never go back.
Previous download speed was about 5mins per 1mb and now its seconds.
Sorry I digress....In answer to your question "Browse and ye shall find".

Hope you dont get stuck With VERIZON DSL!?? they make you wait FOREVER! (3 months for me!) you need to be on hold for hours on the phone also!and their tech support is putrid!
altho they DO give you the modem AND the NIC
Gratis....and its only 40 bucks for 640kpbs speed/only 90kbps uploads though! as the others said ,,,,assuming you're close enough! or you may have to settle for Isdn 128 speed!
(in that case ....go for cable!)
HOWEVER.....once you get it ...you'll LOVE IT! if you're thinking cable and
if you have lots of folks in your area using it? you'll slow down considerably.... and DSL is a bit safer than cable in regards to people peeping into your puter!
whatever you do ! DONT GET SATELLITE! IT SUX!

Verison must have different options available in different areas. I have Verizon DSL and I signed up with the Bronze Plus package which gives me 764k down and 128k up, and it was only $32 a month.
But as DS Ellie stated, it took forever to get it installed.
