DSL modem not recognized

Hi, I recently signed up for Verizon DSL for my Windows 98 system, and I've recieved the Westell modem, but my software installation cannot proceed because "No NIC/ADSL modem is installed". I've contacted Verizon, and I was told that I needed a driver for my PCI Fast Ethernet DEC 211143 Based Adapter. I'm not a hardware expert, so I have no idea what type of driver to look for. Can someone help? Thanks.
I'm not even sure that missing drivers is the reason my modem is not being recognized.
It really depends if you have an onboard or PCI NIC card. Either way, go into Device Manager and click the properties on the adaptor, to refresh the drivers you may need your Win98 CD so be ready for it. If it is an off brand, have the disk ready to load the drivers for it.

The modem itself will not be recognized by Windows. It will recognize the LAN card in the computer. That is your link to the modem. You probably do not have the drivers installed to operate the LAN card, if in fact, you have a card in the machine. I did a search for the model you indicated and could not come up with a manufacturer to search for drivers.
