when I open IE, it takes forever and gives the error, can't open page, then when I refresh, the dsl login page comes up. I set it to detect lan settings automatically. The provider says it's an IE problem and gateway says it's the dsl connection...

I use win98SE
pentium III
450mhz
128mb ram

thanks

somewhere in IE you can choose to have it "detect proxy settings". That may do it. Mine was doing that for a while when I had DSL hiccups. Try using Netscape to see if you can isolate it to IE.
