A colleague of mine has compressed his hard disk but is left now with one file DRIVESPACE.000, it is over 1Gb in size so I assume this contains the contents of the hard disk. How can I reverse this?

The Drivespace.000 file is indeed the CVF (Compressed Volume File) and contains the data on the hard disk. In order for the data to be useable the disk needs to be mounted. The base OS ie Dos is not compressed and should still operate. To access Drivespace.000 use the drivespace command Mount and specify the drive letter. Generally I would advise anyone not to use Drivespace I have lost the contents of a disk and rendered it Unformattable due to drivespace, it also causes extra wear on the heads and slows down system performance. Best plan is to buy a bigger HD!

Under Win95B: Using partition magic I converted my C-drive from FAT16 to FAT32. My compressed Edisk (via drivespace 3) is no longer accessable, though it's still there. DRVSPACE.001 is there, but my drive list shows C: D: F: C is host to E, D is host to F in DRVSPACE.INI There must be a bit somewhere ... When I tried mounting it, I was given H as the only possible name, and then got a system check. Other strange thing: some programs, like Quicken (DOS version) can access data, and shortcut Icons resident on E disk are still presented. Other references to E disk data give report: Network drive not available.
