my problem now is i have drivers missing from the pc. i have done an automatic search for the modem drivers but no modem is recognised. i am not sure which make the modem is also the colors on the screen are on 16 colors instead of 256? & i cannot alter the amount of colors. anyone know how i can get the drivers needed when i dont even know what make the modem is . the pc is a compaq if this helps
thx
terry

What Compaq model is your computer.
If you tell us the model, operating system..
we'll be able to help you get the needed drivers.Robertt

Sure - knowing the Compaq model number will help to determine the hardware, and what drivers may be needed.
If you download & install Everest, that can tell much about a machine.
256 colours was pretty good - years ago - with the correct video drivers you should be able to achieve more than that.
I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

If you know the model number of the PC & all the hardware is original, just go to the HP/Compaq website & download the drivers
Asus A7N8X-X
2500+ Sempron @ 2100mhz
10.5 x 200mhz @ 1.80v
512mb PC3200
Ti4200/8X 128mb
WDC 60GB

I am having similar problems with my P2. After having reformatted the hard-drive and installed Win98 (2 Ed) I have two unkown devices: PCI serial controller and PCI multimedia video device. My modem is not being detected automatically and when I manually install one to com3 and try to test it I get an error message (either 'com port already open' or 'com port not recognised by registry.
Help anyone?

Repost - tacking on your question here distracts everyone from the original poster's problem
