Driver won't install

I have just bought a conoscan N1220U scanner and the driver won't install. I phoned canon for technical help and they told me to take it back because the CD-Rom was at fault. I was given another one and the same fault exists. I have tried downloading the driver from their site and it still won't work. Can anyone help me.
