I have no idea what's happened here, but suddenly I can't save downloads in IE (using 5.5). When I select "Save this file to disk" and click the button, it just disappears and does nothing. When I right-click and click "Save targe as", it shows the "Getting file information" box for a bit, then disappears. When I try to "Save picture as" with a picture, it gives me "Could not complete the operation due to error 8007ffff". "Open the file from its current location" works fine, but there are very few situations where I'd want to do that.

Try emptying your Temporary Internet Files folder (TIF) otherwise I don't know.
IE Tools, Internet Options, General tab, TIF Section, Delete Files (and Offline files), Ok.

If Bryans fix doesn't sort it then try IE Repair:

Control Panel/Add-Remove/double click Mircrosoft IE & Tools and hopefully you will get the option. Bit of a long shot for this problem but you never know.

Hi y'all,

Try going to tools/internet options/security/custom level:
See if the file download is disabled..
