I have just bought a new version of the norton antivirus package from the symantexc website. In order to activate it, I need to download it from the site but when I click "save to desktop" nothing happens. The cursor does not freeze but no download happens. Does anyone know what to do?
thanks
Dee

Are you sure that you are doing it correctly? When I download something, I do not see a "save to desktop" button.
Maybe you should point use to the page where you are attempting this and describe what you do.
Sorry, I do not check for private messages

Whatever, the desktop is not the best place to download programs onto. Some programs can unzip files which would end up all over your desktop.
Make up a spare folder on the C drive somewhere, then direct your save into that. You can then go to the folder and install the program from there.

Did you check for compatibility before purchasing the 2006 version. It is not compatible with windows 98

Looks like JohnT has hit the nail on the head.
With any program (free or otherwise) you always need to check if it will run on these older systems. After MS withdraw support from W98 in July 06 it is likely that less and less software will be produced for W98 or earlier.

Why would they want to test it, when the product site Symantec states the product will not work with windows 98. Kind of a waste of effort. Just find a product that is ICSA certified and use a new one.

There is no doubt about it. Norton anti virus 2006 is NOT compatible with Windows 98. I am running Windows 98 and I recently purchased Norton 2006 and found it compleatly messed up my computer after install. It does install the 2005 version..so they say...but the problems it created were not worth any amount of anti virius protection. I found that it messed with my mail, shut down became impossible, the computer was freezing constantly and I was getting tons of error messages. The big culprit seemed to be the live update. Anyway, after I uninstalled it and started using AVG Free my computer runs like a top. If you are happy with Windows 98 my advice would be to dump Norton use AVG Free, Spybot Search and Destroy, Bazooka Spyware Scanner, CCleaner, and use Mozilla Firefox as your browser...all free! It doesn't get any easier.

Sadly you are probably wasting your time. We've not heard from dee111 for a month.
On behalf of dee111 I might as well thank anyone who bothered to try and help.
