I have this trojan horse (Downloader Stubby D.). I have tried several (atleast 10) so-called virus/trojan removers (including AVG), all have acknowledged it , but will not remove it. As far as I can tell it is in my local/temp files (satmat.exe).Have tried a search and delete...with no luck. Tried the system restore routine..no luck. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

I just had an experience with the same virus "Stubby"D". This forum worked for me.

I'm in a rush, out the door but I'll check back and give some "click by click" instructions if needed.

Try to locate that file. Somehow. I dunno whether the Trojan detectors tell you where the file is located or not.
As a rule, once you come to know where it is, rely on DOS prompt to get that busted. Do not let Windows load up. Just too many ways the same can hide that ways.

Keep us informed abt the progress on this...

Just for info (next time).

You have a security issue on Windows XP.
The Win95/98 forum was therefore a bad choice.

For this problem the Security & Virus forum would have been best, and the XP forum for general problems with this particular machine.

Thank you everyone for your posts.Colonal: Tried that..detected it but would not remove it. Anuj: Tried that also. Did a search for the file an came up with nothing.
Derek: Tried posting in XP forum, keeps telling me "Invalid subject".Jam: Booted into safe mode, turned off system restore, ran Trojan Remover (fast scan), said no malicious files/no changes have been made. After restarting, I ran AVG free edition. Now I have 2 (!!!!) viruses. Both Downlaoder Stubby D.(satmat.exe and satmat.cab). I am at my witts end! Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Like I said, Security & Virus forum is best for this viruses/malware/trojans - that's what they specialize in.

Perhaps the Webmaster has some check to stop dual postings and that's why the subject was rejected.

Having started I would continue on here for a while. If we run out of ideas and the post has gone a good way down the page then try S&V once more (maybe a reworded title will fix it - such as "Stubby D. Trojan"). If you do go that way then be sure to say what you've already tried.

I'm not S&V expert so I did a search in Google. This might do the trick:
REMOVAL PROCEDURE

Otherwise download/install/update and run this freebie program. It is mainly for finding and fixing Trojans:

....more. A2FREE is via the download link at the bottom of the page. A2Personal is the one you pay for.

They've changed the page since I saw it (to persuade you to buy the other version I reckon). The freebie finds and fixes - just doesn't have the system guarding features.

Thank you very much for all your ideas! I have finally conqured these trojans!!!! I did a search for local settings an found three satmat. files. I deleted them, ran AVG an it found zero viruses!!!It occured to me when I looked in my C: drive under documents and settings there was no listing for local settings. When I had tried to delete these files before I had done a search for "satmat."..that is where I made my mistake.

It was nice to see someone who managed to get rid of these trojans. Could You just explain the removal procedure in little more details.
What folders and search string were used?
