Someone sent me a file named Sacc.Idx. I ran a search and could not find it. I turned my computers off went to bed. When I got up the next morning both were on. My computer will not shut off, it goes into sleep mode. I have programs that will not open. Excell gives me a Solver error. If anyone has seen or heard of this any help would be appreciated.

Just the same, a virus checker is a good idea just in case you or someone else makes a mistake. AVG do a free one that's a nice safeguard. Even folks with common sense can make mistakes.
Don't let your OE open in preview pane then there is no chance anything will run before you check what has arrived in the InBox. Also, always ensure you are set to show all file extensions (XP's default does not do this). It could really have been a file named "Sacc.Idx" but with an executable extension (such as .exe) that was not visible to you.
For your immediate problem the virus checking given by either #1 or #2 is the way forward.
Incidentally did you notice there is an "XP forum" and a "Security & Virus forum" (top left of this page)? Maybe everyone loves us on here, we seem to get them all.
