I want to put a link to a windows audio file - wma file- in web page on a server such that when somebody clicks on the link, instead of starting the media player, it should throw up the "save target as" dialog box. How do I do it. Setting the MIME types on IIS does not seem to help. The local setting seems to override the IIS setting.

To my knowledge you can't do what you want. The only links that automatically go into download format are an .exe file or a .zip file. Left clicking on these two types of files will bring up a download process. The only way to save a file such as you mention is to right click on it manually. I know this isn't what you want to hear but I hope it helps.

I was thinking about this post at work today. I don't see any reason why you can't put the file you want to be "only downloadable" into a .zip file. that way when it was clicked on it would only give you two options: To open with winzip(most people don't do that) or To download the file and open from hard drive. You could even make it into a self-extracting file after you put it into winzip format. Hope this helps.
