Someone by mistake click on the option (what to do with this file) in the download dialog box…. Now all the downloads end up “God knows where”… Is there any way to retrieve that dialog box

Try resetting all the internet settings. Tools, Reset Web Settings...

If someone has at one time told IE not to ask for the folder to store downloaded files in. Then to correct this situation: Go to My Computer/View/Folder Options Select the File types tab Scan the list and find the file type that you are having the problem with Highlight it and select 'edit' Put a check in the 'Confirm open after download' box You will have to do this for every file type that you are having trouble with
