double clicking on desktop icons opens properties window instead of program

Can anyone help me please!! I am running Win95 OS. I seem to have an intermittent problem. When I try to open a desctop icon by double clicking it, it opens the properties window as if I had right clicked on the icon. Furthermore, when I am typing sometimes the keyboard stops working and acts as though I have pressed CTRL and a letter for a specific action. Please someone give me ideas as I have already replaced the CPU and RAM and formatted hard disk, and reinstalled windows, but to no avail!! Thanks
