Various ways.

What I did before I had my wireless mouse was put a copy of an old file mouse.com in c:\windows\command

I then opened the file dosstart.bat (in c:\windows) using NotePad and put in the line:
c:\windows\command\mouse.com

In some true DOS situations it might be necessary to type mouse (hit Return key) for it to function. No need when using "Restart in MS-DOS mode".

Can send file if you wish.

Sorry, overlapped with jboy.

I preferred my arrangement because it avoided activating the DOS mouse each time I started up.

But as I said, many ways.

Sure, lots of ways - it's no great chore to load the driver from the command line if needed (even 'high' if configured for that)

When using dosstart.bat you can also load mscdex there and, if a cdrom driver is loading in config.sys, you'll have dos cdrom suport.

And if you boot directly to dos via the boot menu just type c:\windows\dosstart and enter at the prompt to run it.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

I can boot DOS from a P3 Sony laptop, but Cutemouse freezes and will not recognize the toughpad. Is there another DOS mouse driver which will recognize the touchpad?

There may be drivers on Sony's support site for your model. If that doesn't do it you should probably start a new thread so more people will see it.

If you repost make sure you mention what you've tried and the touchpad issue, otherwise you might get the same suggestions all over again from others.

I looked through Sony's site but didn't see it. I don't think they would make a DOS mouse driver for a laptop that came with Win 98.
I'll try making a new thread then...
(Laptop is PCG-XG29)
