Cant get Dos based games to work with Win 98.
I have an AMD K6-2 350, DCS S817 sound card which uses Yamaha 724 Chip set. The store I bought this through didn't setup any Autoexec.bat or Config.sys files? He also says that Win 98 won't run DOS Games? Is he correct and should I go back to Win 95?????

Hi,

Don't know about DCS S817, but usually Yamaha based sound cards need DOS driver in Autoexec.bat to work with DOS games. I think you need to find drivers and install them. As about Win98 won't run DOS Games - it's just not true.

Good luck, Igor M

Rick,

I don't know about Cyberia2, but DukeNuken 3D works fine on my friend Win98 system. The other games I tried was: Phatasmagoria I, The Beast Within, NFS, Flash Back, Heretic, Doom (the list would be too long if I try to rememver all games I run) and I not had any problems. May be you just not properly configure you conventional memory? If you need some advice on the subject post more detailed information here or email me.

Good luck, Igor M

Have you tried running your games by booting up with a boot disk and getting into dos that way?

First of all There is no reason as to why dos games will work under win95 and not work with win98. Im not too sure exactly what your problem is but if it is that the whole game wont work try shutting down into dos mode and running the game that way. If it is your sound that is not working you might need to set it up in your autoexec.bat file If you email me I might be able to provide some better answers.

Most times if your sound does not work it may be because of your sound driver.
f the game refuses to run it may be because the game has been set up incorrectly, however
windows 98 has a ms-dos trouble shooter that should help.

UM, dos and windows 98? BAD!!!!! ever heard of a FAT table, did you know that a dos or 16bit table will right to windows 98? Well, that's all fine and dandy, we want it to right to windows98, but what happens when you 16 bit programs start writing OVER YOUR FUCKING 32BIT AND INSTEAD OF WRITING TO WINDOWS IT RIGHTS OVER FUCKIN WINDOWS AND SCRAMBLES THE FAT TABLE? Then what, your DONE. seen it to many times, keep telling people not to do it, get atleast 2 calls a week reguarding there computer say....what was that agian....??? O'h yeah, NON SYSTEM DISK....at boot. But go ahead and be like most of my warranty wanting custumers and do it.

By the way, it probably won't happen right away.

Problem is not at Windows
Dos games can be run in Win 95,98,ME and NT
But only Win95 and Win98 can have ems memory.
Edit Config.sys to active EMS memory
DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVIVE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.exe RAM
(add this lines to file)
But Real Problem is SOUND PROBLEM if you
have new generation soundcards (32 bit or higher)
Can Anybody Know How to Fix this?
