I have a Hp pavilion I bought Jan 00. I had can't use edit, attrib, or find any help files in DOS or MS-DOS. Are they "out dated" commands because I really enjoyed them in the past.

Is edit.com & attrib.exe located in the C:\Windows\command folder? Do you know my name? Please help me!

Thanks beep and no name but..I don't have a C:/windows/command file. I showed all files like beep said. Commands that work are: Rename, dir , cd, regedit, extract, copy, Commands that don't work:Edit, attrib, deltree, xcopy, What should I do about the missing Command folder??? Thanks, Danny

You should have approx 50-65 files in the Command folder. You will have to make the Command folder & extract or copy the needed files to it. The .com's are in #28.cab & the .exe's are in 40-43.cab files. Will try to post a list,of the files in my command folder. Out here in the desert on a "horse with no name". Can someone please tell us who we are & which way did we go?

A bit strange that you don't get those in \windows\command. One simple way to put them back is go to your windows boot disk. They should be in ebd.cab. Use say winzip to extract and put them back. Of course, they are also in the installation CDRom. For instance, changing file attribute file-to-file can be done by right click it and edit its properties. But doing so by batch with wild card etc, Dos may sometimes be more convenient --- we have to enjoy them as you said maybe for a long time. Win seems to be weak in theses kinds of file utilities as rename, attrib, etc. Often, one has to resort to specialized little free/shareware programs to do those batch processes.
