Comment:

I have an Acer Aspire on my workbench that will not boot it's win95 load. My plan was to fdisk and do a fresh install of win98. However, when I try to boot with CD-ROM support the startup disk freezes at the "device name IDECD000" line. I have moved the CD drive from slave on the secondary IDE to the first (where the working hard drive lives) with the same results. I have also tried another IDE drive with the same results. Finally, I have done a command prompt only boot on the system's win95 load, also with the same results. BIOS sees the CD. What am I missing?

Assuming the cdrom is good, it probably needs more specific dos drivers than are found on the bootdisk. Check acer's site.
