Glad you fixed it. Sometimes I'll just use the quick-launch bar to launch what I need when I need it. Some things when launched will reset the systray, though.

The systray is only a convenience for the user.

Systray is not necessary in the StartUp as you have discovered. You will see many sites that say it must be loaded at startup for Windows to run, they are mistaken.

Here is a list of items that are loaded with systray. As you can see all of those items can be started from the Control Panel if desired.

I would also recommend leaving scanreg selected to startup as it makes a backup of your registry once each day the first time you start or restart the computer.

Good Day!

Hi again everyone,

While we are talking about the startup items I shall post my reference to them.

StartUp List Full

The above link should show everything listed in the StartUp list within msconfig.
It will also recommend whether the item is necessary to StartUp.

In the far left of the form you will see the following codes:

"Y" - Normally leave to run at start-up

"N" - Not required - typically infrequently used tasks that can be started manually if necessary

"U" - User's choice - depends whether a user deems it necessary

"X" - Definitely not required - typically viruses, spyware, adware and "resource hogs"

"?" - Unknown

Note: Systray.exe is N

Good Day!

I've had my SystemTray unchecked for yonks, no problem - clock & tray icons there fine.

I did read somewhere that there is/was some specific printer that needed it. Otherwise I'm right with you.

Hi Derek, hi everyone,

I run the same way without any problems, guess I haven't run into that partitcular printer as of yet. :)

Always very good to hear from you.

Best Wishes to You and Yours,
Mesich
