Just installed Ethernet adapter in my old W98 pc but installation asks me to insert disk labeled Windows 98 CD ROM and access rnr20.dll. There was no W98 disk with my pc when I bought it. Any suggestion as to what I can do?

W98 might have been loaded into a folder somewhere.
The folder should have a number of .cab files in it.Try this:
Use Find to search for Win98_30.cab (nothing magic about that one, just one of many). If it finds the file then note the folder in which it is contained. When Windows asks for the CD direct it to that folder.
Otherwise the best bet is to look on eBay to see if you can get a full CD. The file rnr20.dll could be sent to you but I suspect it will need a whole lot more than that.

That's not a win98 file.
Windows sometimes arroneously asked for the win98 CD when it actually needs the folder where the drivers are. Redirect it to the place where you have the Ethernet card's drivers.Do yourself a favor BACKUP!
Sorry, I do not check for private messages

This is similar to the 1st reply, but go to Start>Find>Files and Folders, and in the Look For box, enter "rnr20.dll" without quotes, and click Find Now. More than likely, the file is located in C:\Windows\System.
If Windows finds the file, note the folder it's in, and enter that into the prompt that asks you for the Win98 disk.

It's on my CD's for both W98FE & SE in Net7.cab (so if W98 is on the HD somewhere it should be in the same place).
It is also on my machine and yes, it's in c:\windows\system. This would be an easier way to get to it if it exists. It doesn't appear to get updated.

Hi Derek,
I think you're right. If the CABs are not available, check the inf to see what files are needed.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.M2

Followed Derek's suggestion and found what I need in Win98_30.cab. Thanks to all for helping.

Amazing bit of co-incidence because I was only using Win98_30.cab as an example (I could have chosen any old number which was within the .cab range).
Whatever, glad to hear you sorted it and thanks for popping back to let us know.
