Is Norton Ghost far superior to the backup program that comes with Windows 98.
Guess I would prefer just to use the program I own versus going out and purchasing ghost.
Also---I see Norton offers a "Utilities Package" with Antivirus, Ghost, and some other programs. Do I lose something when I buy this package or should I buy Ghost by itself.
I have never backed anything up and am just thinking about doing so as I may reinstall Windows 98 soon as I am having some problems
Thanks

If you use MS backup, you'll have to do a new install of the O/S in order to get the backup utility so you can restore your backup .qic? file. With Ghost, you just boot to dos and run it, and it restores the "image" of your backup onto the drive.
If you're having "problems" and use either MSBackup or Ghost, those problems will be carried across to the backup. The time to use these utilities is when you have a "clean running" system, so you can go back to that point before problems.

ya only need it if you want to go from a totaly wiped out hard drive to a fresh operating system, every bit fo data, all updates and defintions, and everything registerd to fully restored in 20 minutes. for 98 its about 5 bucks

I use norton ghost to backup my systems. it is worth every penny that it cost me, it has saved my bacon many times. you do need to take frequent backups tho, I also use Replicator from www.karenware.com to backup files and folders daily. would not be without NG, Al

In addition, I keep a cd-rw disk in my burner and am developing the habit of drag it and drop it.
Hardware failure is always a concern but, I'm more concerned about malware invading a system to the point that everything is lost. One really good virus, worm or trojan sneaking in could kill a hdd.
Ghost, Replicator, burning file backups and so forth are becoming standard operating procedure.
Bottom line:
"it is worth every penny that it cost me"
