CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP EACH TIME I BOOT UP I GET THE MESSAGE VERIFYING DMI POOL DATA... AND THEN THE SYSTEM JUST HANGS. IVE TRIED LOADS OF STUFF FROM BIOS SETTINGS TO A NEW HARD DRIVE NONE HAVE WORKED.

It is very likely that the HD you are trying to boot has its active partition corrupt. Here's what you do... if the booting drive is C:, then boot your system from a bootable disk and transfer the system, using the SYS command, to C: drive. Then your system shall boot normally.
Good Luck

What about a PC wich function normal if the HD is formatted as FAT and after you convert it to NTFS you get this problem?

We get the same problem when we plug a Creative 48X CDROM on our PC. So far the only solution we have found is to disable the CDROM from the Boot Order (or at least place it after the Hard Drive)

I keep getting the same hangup and keep doing the transfer system... but the problem continues. What causes it and how can I fix it permanently! Thanks oodles!

I found this on the net...hope it helps!
Dear Fellow Cursed DMI Pool Members,
The following is a bulletin I copied and pasted here for
your reference. Hope it helps! The Desktop Management Interface (DMI) is a new
method of managing computers in an
enterprise. The main component of DMI is the
Management Information Format Database,
or MIFD (the DMI Pool Data). This database contains
all the information about the
computing system and its components. At times, some systems may experience hang conditions
after partitioning, formatting and
initial bootup of a hard drive. The message, "Verifying
DMI Pool Data" appears and the
system hangs. This condition may continue after the drive
has been removed.! WARNING ! ALL SUGGESTIONS LISTED IN
THIS INFORMATION BULLETIN
ARE BIOS RELATED. FOR A PERMANENT
SOLUTION, MAXTOR
RECOMMENDS THAT USERS CONSULT THEIR
SYSTEM OR MOTHERBOARD
MANUFACTURER FOR BIOS UPGRADES.Suggestions to Resolve the Condition:
1.Apply power to the computer.
2.Access the system BIOS.
Set the drive type as None or Not Installed.
Load BIOS Defaults
Load SETUP Defaults
3.Save the BIOS changes and reboot the PC to a System
Boot Diskette.
4.Shut down the PC after the memory count is displayed.5.Reconnect the power and interface cables to the hard
drive.
6.Access the System BIOS.
7.Auto-Detect the hard drive. Ensure that the LBA Mode
option is enabled.
8.Save the BIOS changes and boot the PC with a
System Diskette.
9.Partition and format the hard drive via the operating
system.
10.Reboot the system. On bootup, the screen should
read:
Verifying DMI Pool Data
Update Successful
The system should continue booting normally.Other Possible Solutions:
1.Apply power to the computer.
2.Access the System BIOS.
3.Disable both the Internal and External CPU Cache.
These features are located in
either the "BIOS Features" or "Advanced Settings"
options of the BIOS Setup.
NOTE: Consult the System or Motherboard User's
Manual for exact location of the
Internal and External CPU Cache settings.
4.Save the BIOS changes and reboot the PC to a System
Boot Diskette. On bootup,
the screen should read:
Verifying DMI Pool Data
Update Successful
The system should continue booting normally.
5.After the system successfully boots, re-start the PC and
access the system BIOS.
6.Enable the External CPU Cache. This feature is located
in the "BIOS Features" or
"Advanced Settings".
NOTE: Consult the System or Motherboard User's
Manual for exact location of the
External CPU Cache setting.
! WARNING ! User's MUST re-enable this feature for
optimal system performance.
7.Save the BIOS changes and reboot the PC to a System
Boot Diskette. On bootup,
the screen should read:
Verifying DMI Pool Data
Update Successful
The system should continue booting normally.NOTE: If the aforementioned suggestions fail to resolve
the issue, contact the system or
motherboard manufacturer to:Remove the "Clear CMOS" Jumper and reset the system
BIOS
Obtain a Flash BIOS Upgrade

Hey guys and gals,
I just found this out about my computer...maybe you have the same stuff? I have a maxtor 4.3 hardrive and a packard bell 1.2 (or close to that) running on an AWARD BIOS and an FIC motherboard with an AMDK6 processor. I found out that my board just can't handle it. I get the DMI Pool data hang just like the rest of you. Check out these web pages and see if it's the same for you. Surf to your motherboard's web page, and the bios webpage to check for conflicts.http://www.maxtor.com/technology/infobulls/13027.html
http://www.fica.com and then go to motherboard and bios/drivers
Hope this helps too!

When I use Ghost to image a 4GB drive I sometimes get the DMI Hang. I think it's cause the fujitsu drive can't handle the imaging. I can install an OS no problem but to actually image to it it just hangs. I have tried some of the suggestions above but to no avail. I know the image is good but it just hangs. I can boot off CDor Floppy but the HD can't.
If you have any suggestions please post and e-mail me. thnx

I found a webpaget that might help most of you with your DMI hangs it deals with maxtor hard drives but the information should apply to other hard drives as well it is worth taking a look at anyway could not hurt here is the url

I have this problem at the mo. I have rebuilt a friends machine, loaded Win 98, and Off 97, and IE5, and all was fine.
I then loaded OSR 1 and at the same time (stupidly) swapped some memory modules to see if this would give my friend more resources, as i no longer needed these memory sticks.
The DMI Pool hung, and after trying new leads for the Hard and Floppy drives, Im still HUNG up.
Please help, i have two machines doing this !!!!!

Please help...I have the DMI hang everytime I boot-up and I've tried changing the boot sequence, but the computer won't read any of my drives (A or C). What should I do? I get the building DMI pool and then a hang. HELP!!!!!!

everytime i reboot my PC, i get prompted with this message: CMOS checksum error-defaults loaded, cmos battery failed. i access my cmos setup to change the settings but it won't save. my motherboard has a barrel type battery.where can we get replacement?

I have a Western Digital Caviar 850 and while to bring it up on a DOS install prelude to Windows 95, got the LI hang right after the DMI POOL DATA HANG. After making sure my HD was configured in CMOS for LBA, I did a DOS 3.2 FDISK /MBR and that did the trick. Whereupon, I re FDISKed it and formatted it. Now, I am booting up to the C Drive. I hope this is helpful.

I just install more ram to my system , I went to hook it back up , and I get the Dmi pool Hang , I took the new ram out and still the same ?? it's a gigabyte board ga-6vxe+ with 256 sdram p3 450 . I can't did anything with it but get in the bios . even when I put a system disk in I get the hang, any ideas? I tried almost every thing.

Just ran into the same DMI Pool data hang problem.
It was caused by an IRQ conflict with the
ACPI and the on board ATA 66 controller.I used BIOS setup to block the IRQ used for the controller and ACPI and reset the IRQ values for the installed cards.
Conflict resolved... booted properly

Have tried everything in the list below and nothing helps. Now I want to flash the bios as a last thing, but I cant boot an a diskette.
What shall I do??????????
Lennart
