Im been trying to boot a old gateway 4D2X-66 PC from a old OEM CD-ROM (571-matsus---a)I managed to get drivers for the CD,for both DOS 6.22 and win95.It showed that the drivers were loaded on the start up screen.Tryed to run CD in DOS and with 95 BOOTDISK,when I type setupwin95 after the CD-ROMs drives promp I keep getting this error message DIVIDE OVERFLOW.The CD-ROM is inline with the HD and set as slave. When in DOS and I tryed to load a nother CD I start geting a DRIVE NOT READY.What is wrong,Driving me crazy, could it be the CD player, not enof RAM,prossesor(486)???? dont get it.THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP YOU MAY HAVE TO OFFER.awskyril22@aol.com

I don't know for sure if it's causing your problems but ... Win95 includes Dos 7. I suggest that you rid yourself of Dos 6.22 and don't try to mix the two.

I suggest that you download a win95 floppy with cdrom support from www.bootdisk.com. Format and try the install using that floppy. I think you will be successful.

I allready tryed a bootdisk downloaded from BOOTDISK .com and had installed the THEPATCH drivers onto it ( the win 95 drivers would not support the CD) This still did not resolve the problum.I had also FDISK the HD to get rid of DOS 6.22 thinking that it might cause a conflict.Still no results.Hmmmmm.

You can safely strike the processor off your list of potential trouble sources. I still would try and set that CD-ROM drive to secondary master, though.

Can you access the win95 CD with dir and cd commands? Can you copy files from the win95 CD?
If so , copy win95 folder and contents to hard drive. Run C:\Win95\setup.exe from there instead.

I have installed windows 98 second edition after that I did the modification on the msdos.sys to break windows 98 and to just use the MS Dos 7.0 whitout going into the win98 GUI.
The problem is when I am trying to bootdisk with 3com 3CCE589CE Model driver at the line DEVICE=\net\elpc3.dos in config.sys the divide overflow error appears and the system hangs. The disk is ghost wizard boot disk, and the driver for the network card is correct.
Could you please send me a feed back and explain me what to do to avoid this problem
Many thanks

I suffered Divide Overflow Error on boot up (or lack of it!)after "Verifying DMIPool data". Disabling anti-virus at start up solved problem
