Display problems after EA Sports Game

Was playing EA Sports FA Manager 2002 when display flicked off and came back on with lines at top of screen and curved distortion at bottom of screen.
Have tried reinstalling monitor (A1996NST) and graphics card (NVidia RIVA TNT) - didnt help in fact made things worse as I have trouble getting a full screen display now as well (hmmm!) and sometimes on boot I get adapter settings are wrong.
Without going to reinstall windows or system again, anyone got any ideas?
Could it be a virus or problem with drivers or registry.
Im lost now and hopeless at fixing this - please help someone out there! Thanx
