Can someone please help me out. I've been working on this thing for a week and I'm starting to go mad.

My hard drive is blank. Just formatted. (with /s). I put it in my computer with a start up disk and win98 cd. jumpers and cables are set right. I turn my computer on and i get "disk I/O error....insert system disk" but my system disk is inserted. I know a: drive in working properly cuz I set cmos to detect a: on startup and it does detect. boot sequence is right too...set it to a: first...then cdrom first...still same problem. I even installed win98 on another computer into that HDD and then set the boot sequence to c: first....and still the same problem. What's going on?

I'm not a begginer with computer...so please no responses like check your connection and stuff.

cmos detects the HDD and everthign...

I note you are no begginer and that you did format with /s

Just the same, have you tried this?:

Put the startup disk into the floppy drive and boot up. When the a: prompt comes up type sys c: then take out the floppy disk and reboot.

Try resetting the Bios. You can do that with a jumper on the motherboard or by removing the motherboard battery for a few minutes.

Jim,

Be a little grateful for the information you receive here. All of the ppl who come here to give advice spend their own time for YOUR own benefit. It is extremely rude how you excluded Derek from your thanks. It disgusts me to know that there are such ungrateful brutes there are. If you have nothing nice to say, don't speak at all.

jim,
watch what you're saying to people - and you can't be that advanced a user if you haven't thought to reset the BIOS!
