It depends on how much you add or remove things from your PC.
If you are using WinME defrag and it takes more then 10 minutes then do it more often. Of course, if you have not defragged in 6 months then it will take considerably longer.
I personally defrag weekly whether I need it or not.

Weekly seems excessive to me. Once a month is probably ok. Depends somewhat on how much you write to the disk. However if your hard drive is near full files become fragmented more quickly, especially big files such as the swap file. I must admit I liked the old defrag (win3.1 or maybe win95) that told you how fragmented your drive was and gave you the option of defragging or not.
