Is your Win98 CD for a fact, bootable?
Try a bootdisk with CD-ROM support. Execute the file to create the diskette.
You'll likely need to remove the old partition with fdisk and create a new one, then format the drive if you haven't already done so.

First of all you will need to remove the partitions and repartition the harddrive. To remove the partitions you will need a program called Delpart and to create new partitions use Fdisk, which will be on a Windows setup/boot disk. If the computer won't boot to the Win98 CD, then the disk you have isn't bootable and you will need a boot disk. Goo to Radified.com/files for Delpart and to Bootdisk.com to download the appropriate bootdisk for the version of Win98 that you have. Hopefully you know if you have Win98fe or se.

For the purpose of installation, it really doesn't matter whether you use an FE or SE bootdisk. The same DOS is in both of those (and 95B as well).

Your CD is not bootable. you can try below
1. find a bootable CD2. Go to another Win98 PC and create a boot disk with CD rom support. Use this diskette to boot the PC

Thank you all for ur responses, I will try to make a bootable cd from bookdisk.com and see if that helps me boot my PC. and yes my win98 cd right now is not bootable for sure. thanks again

'linuz os' If you mean LINUX.....
Linux is not FAT 32 (I don't think so anyway).
You will have to format the drive first to FAT32. You may have to delete the partition first, then remake it and format it. It would be the same if you have Win XP installed on a NTFS drive. Boot disk's in DOS can't read NTFS formatting. This is perhaps what Response Number 2 was saying.

.. or perhaps even response #1
Yes, the non DOS partition must be removed

jboy and myself were saying the same thing. I was just taking a step further. If the non dos partition refuses to be deleted by Fdisk, which is quite possible, then use Delpart. Using Delpart from a floppy can be dangerous. It is a pure dos program and CAN be confusing. Especially the save and exit part.

Sure - DOS fdisk 'should' be able to remove it, but if not, delpart almost certainly will (that's its sole purpose). Linux has its own version of fdisk, which would likely also be able to remove the partition
Anyways, post back on how you make out, Naughtysal
