OS: WIN98se
CPU/Ram: AMD 2500/I Gig
Comment:

I have a total new PC which I put together, everything is fine I HAD installed WIN98se but then formatted the C and D drives (partitioned) THEN I have tried with various options to boot - CD, Floppy etc also made the setup in BIOS to ONLY use Floppy or CD when booting. No matter what I do i keep on getting:
'DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER'

I can boot with the Floppy from my old PC. Im totally lost on this WHATS happening??????

thanks

Hi Serhan, hello everyone,

Check the power and data cables going to the floppy. Does the light for the floppy drive come on and stay on?

Check the Bios settings.
Ensure A: is set at 1.44MB
Ensure the Floppy Disk Controller is Enable.
First Boot Device= A: or Floppy

Best Regards,
Mesich

Hi Serhan, hello everyone,

I just noticed the new computer has 1GB of RAM installed. This may cause some problems with Win98 although it is not related to the problem you are experiencing now.

A link for the future:
Run Win98 with more than 512MB of RAM

Best Regards,
Mesich

Serhan,

Did you mean you installed Win98 SE on a Hard Disk Drive and then Repartitioned and Reformatted the HDD [thereby leaving the HDD bereft of any OS] and then Restarted and changed the Boot Sequence in the BIOS setup to CDD>FDD>HDD or FDD>CDD>HDD ?

Are you placing a Bootable Disc [like Windows OS CD]in the CD-ROM drive or Windows Startup Diskette in the Floppy Disk Drive to boot from and still getting the Disk Boot Failure; insert the System Disk error?

If so, you may have to Check the BIOS Setup again to verify that the ATAPI/IDE Controllers and the FDD controllers are Enabled.
If the Device Controllers are already Enabled in the BIOS setup , the next troubleshoot is inside the case. Make sure the Devices are properly connected in the machine with their Data cables connected with the correct orientation vis-a-vis their Pin-1 and the Power Supply Cable is firmly and securely inserted.

If they are all ok, is it possible the devices are some how damaged?
