Comment: In trying to reinstall Win 95B I have somehow messed things up I have reinstalled Win95B several times with no problem until today.
Now when trying to boot to C: drive I get "Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter " I can insert floppy disc and get it to work but on entering C: I get "Invalid drive specification" I notice that if I try to uninstall Win95 I get an error "C:\msdos.sys is missing or corrupt" and "C:\suhdlog._ _ _ cannot be opened. Disk partition tables have been modified since Win 95 was installed" I suspect that this has been caused by shutting down during the install of Win95B because the screen went blank and nothing was happening To the best of my knowledge the CMOS data is correct although when in setup the computer will not auto detect the C: hard drive as I know it should. When in manual to input the hard drive specs I cannot change any of the specs ie Cyls, heads, sectors etc. I cannot access the hard drive to Fdisk or format etc How do I fix this problem????????? TIA Don Strachan

Reply: (edit)if you know anyone with the same drive as you grab a copy of norton utils. run diskedit. look at their boot sector and note all settings. run norton on yours look at logical drives (if yours is messed up it will not see a physical drive) and edit the boot sector with the noted info. or run norton look at logical drives and wipe everything from the boot sector and the drive. that should get you into a position to fdisk and format.

Reply: (edit)Everyone's problems seem so similar, but slightly different. I get the same "Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk and Press Enter" message when I try to start my computer up. I can only get Windows to come up with the CD or Floppy, not through drive c: alone. What the hell is going on? I was considering swapping my Western Dig HD thinking it may be faulty, however Andre's got me thinking otherwise. David, I understand your frustrations...I just built my first computer also and am having similar problems, although I can get to Windows with CD Rom support...(but it still sucks). Let me know if any of all found a solution that works.....good luck!
