Hi,

My company has a network of clients running WIN98SE. I would like to prevent users on these computers to INSTALL any softwares.
One way, I beleive, is to disable he Windows Installer exe (msiexec.exe).

Can anybody post a login script which can do this?
Or, is there any other way to acheive this?

That wouldn't stop someone from copying it back on unless you also disable the floppy drive in BIOS.

still if they were savvy that could be circumvented with one of those little USB plugin drives or a laptop and a laplink cable.

to be really sure you'd have to upgrade at least to W2K where all the security you ever wanted and more exists.

one other thought. the absence of msiexec.exe might hinder normal network maintenance such as patch application and software upgrades.

I agree with RayMan.

If you want to do this effectively, you'll need to go to 2000.

It's a very stable OS for the most part and has plenty of flexibilty when it comes to locking things down.
