Hi
I'm running win98se and installed MS Office XP. I want to disable MS Office from my Startup group, however when I diable it from the MSCONFIG startup, it just comes back again to haunt me. Very strange.

Thanks

Hi Doxy

Go to Start / Programs / Startup
Delete the MS Office shortcut from there.
The item will then disappear from the MSCONFIG list.

I'm not familiar with Office XP but I guess it's similar to Office 2k in this respect. Try this:

In msconfig see where the file is located (might be a "shortcut").

It will probably be in:

c:\windows\start menu\programs\startup

Wherever it is, go to Windows Explorer and move it to:

c:\windows\start menu

It will then appear at the top of your menu when you hit the Start button, so you can activate it manually as required.

Ooops, we overlapped. Same meat different gravy, mine just gave the manual start option.

Nice to see you around these parts again.

Thank you both.

I should add that under Start>Programs, MS Office appears in both the "Startup" and the "Disabled Items"
What I'm after is to simply free up a bit more system resources.

Thanks

Hi Doxy

It is quite safe to delete the MS Office shortcut from Startup folder, and you can also delete the Disabled Items folder.

Yes, deleting the shortcut from the Startup folder did work. The entry has been removed from MSCONFIG startup, and I got back 4% more system reasoures.

Thanks!
