I am trying to run Starship Titanic on a Compaq Armada 1750, Windows 95. I have DirectX 6.1 on board and it claims that the ESS audio drivers are not certified. Compaq has a download of updated audio drivers but they don't seem to work with DirectX 6.1. The Starship software people say it's a driver problem, not a DirectX problem. ESS says we don't guarantee anything it's a Compaq problem. Compaq gave me four hours of telephone support before giving up. think the game might run under DirectX 5 since DirectX 5 comes on the CD and because I loaded the game on a similar machine that only had 5 and it worked. I would like to clean DirectX 6 out and reinstall 5 but I can't find a utility to do that. There was one listed in a web search I did but the page said that the utility had been removed. A Microsoft conspiracy? Thanks for any help.

The Problem is the Comcrap[Sorry, I'm a jaded Compaq owner]. But, I had a similar problem. You could check ADD/REMOVE programs to remove Direct X 6.1(but I doubt it), or do what I did which was to find the softpaq on the Compaq Website[http://www.compaq.com] and reinstall the latest Dir.X driver for your compaq(Mine was Dir.X 5) and see what happens. It should (if this was really causing your problem) solve this.

OH! and also see if your ESS Driver files are corrupted...
