I have the Sims 2 and everytime I try to play it it tells me that I need a DirectX 9.0 adapter. So can I buy something, or can I just not play the game? I have Windows 98. P.S. If you haven't already noticed, I am not very good with computers!

I believe it means you need to update your video card. The fact that you put ? for your CPU/RAM certainly isn't helpful. Do you even know which video card you have? Did you check the system requirements for Sims 2?

I'm not certain what a directX9.0c adapter is but if it's DirectX9.0c that you need, it's available (free) at the link below.

Apologies in advance if I misunderstood your needs.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

What the message is saying is that you need to have a DX9 compatible graphics card/ chip. That may bo only one of many minimum requirements to play the game. As was stated above we are in the dark about the specs for your computer. The fact that you are running Win98 indicates the computer may be old and may not meet the other game requirements. Even if you meet the minimum requirements game play may not be satifactory. Download the utility from the link below. SIW should be able to give ALL the specs you need to make the determination.

The fact that you have windows 98, means that you at least should have DirectX6 as default. Press the start button, click run, type dxdiag and wait for it to run..
Press "Save all infomation" (bottom right i think), save to desktop, open and copy eveything here. That may give us the light to what specifations your computer has..

Installing DX9.0c will not solve your problem if the graphics in your computer is not DX9.0c compatible. That is what the original message is stating. The game itself probably has already checked and found your specs lacking.

I suggest you download a utility called SIW.exe. That utility can give you the specs on your entire computer. You can then post back here to ask further questions once you know more about your hardware. SIW will also tell you if you already have DX9.0c installed. Get it at the link below.
