I am having trouble running a game called Links LS the 1998 Edition. After I have installed it and am running all new drivers, and Direct X 6.1, I can't get it to run. I keep getting an error saying "DirectDraw init: failed" why? According to my direct X info thing, I everything is in working order. and all the tests i gave to each one worked. HELP ME PLEASE. THANKS.

I have the same problem as you with the same game. Someone told me it has to do with a missing driver from your display card (video)
If you solve this, pls let me know. Thanks

Same failure with Links '99 and I really want to run the game. Don't know what the deal is with the programming or DirectDraw... what's GOIN! ON! Running NT with updated drivers to everything! Tech support from Diamond and Access Software? No help!

Had same prob. found that somehow monitor settings had changed to less than 800/600. After 5 days, damn!!, it fixed it (dumb). Also downloaded new DirectX 7.0 from downloads.com also available on Microsoft. Back to the links......

When DirectX is started it wants control of your multimedia hardwhere (video, audio, etc.). You must set something other than the 'default monitor', (especially afer installing a new video card). This will let DirectDraw talk properly to all your Video Hardware. This should fix any DirectDraw error's in LinksLS98. Anyone up for a "Direct" TCPIP game ... email me and we'll set the time and date up. -Mike

I also can not play Links LS 98 and suspect DirectX 7.0a to be the problem. However, I can no longer change my "Display" settings in Control Panel as Response No. 4 above suggests. I click on "Display" and nothing happens. Any suggestions?
