I cannot get DirectX 6 to work properly with my computer.
I tried 2 different video cards, both for Windows 95 and both with recent drivers. When I run dxdiag.exe, I get:
Microsoft Direct Draw
Your Display driver is not Windows95 compatible.
DirectDraw only supports Windows95 compatible drivers.Like I said I have WIndows95 drivers for my video card. In fact the card says its for Windows95. I go to the Display tab in dxdiag.exe and click on the test. I get the same error again.
This is what gets displayed in the notes window:
No driver problems found.
DirectDraw test results: Failure at step 3 (DirectDrawCreate): HRESULT = 0x887600de
Direct3D test results: Failure at step 3 (DirectDrawCreate): HRESULT = 0x887600deI also ran dxdinfo.exe and I have the results at the end of this message.
I tried de-installing my drivers, removing DirectX going back to VGA in Safe Mode, reinstalling Drivers, rebooting, reinstalling DirectX in safe mode and it still won't work.
Ultimatly I am trying to play a game that needs DirectX 5 or higher called Starcraft.
Its gotta be something setup incorrectly somewhere.
Have any suggestions?Thanks
-Colin R. COleThis is what I get when I run dxdinfo.exe:

DXInfo v. 4.06.00.0318

Hello,
I seem to have a similar problem. Direct x game crash when direct x is enabled. The Dxdiag also crashes while testing direct draw. I've re-installed all the lates drivers, de-installed and re-installed direct x. I've even de-installed and re-installed multimedia and windows 98 using windows setup and my windows 98 cd. I have a STB velocity 128 video card. I called STB tech support and they advise me that microsoft's official fix for this is to reformat your hard drive and re-install windows (95 or 98) - ouch!! According to STB tech support, the codec drivers have become corrupted and simply re-installing windows will not overwrite the corrupted dll files. This SUCKS doesn't it?? I'm almost ready to do the reformat thing myself - I've been trying other things for the past 6 hours - I hate spending my time this way! Well, I hope this helps.
-Mike.
