My system is a P150(Don't laugh it could be you!) 32 meg RAM, and a trident 9680 1 meg, running Win95 etc. I have recently formatted and reinstalled all my programs (Again). When I attempt to use my G2 Player or run MPEG movies etc, I get this message. "Microsoft Direct Draw, Beta Direct draw has EXPIRED, please update. What is Direct Draw? Expired? Like my paycheque? Whats up with that? Can anyone HELP me? What will I do without my radio station while I'm mouse potatoeing? By the way, I have installed DX6. It made my screen purdy but did absoloutely nothing for the problem at hand.

Thank you all in advance.

Beta means a test program that we test for them. You got a beta, time limited version and it timed out. Even though you formatted, the beta knew when you downloaded it, and some of them put code in during the download so they know when you got it. Now they want you to buy a real version. You might try downloading it again, but the original date is back in your registry I imagine. Could try finding and deleting all traces of it in the registry if you're brave. I thought Win95 came with a media palyer that played mpegs. Bruce

Hi,
I have the same problem, but I don't recall having installed anything like Beta Direct Draw! Does it come 'secretly' with other programs, or with unofficial versions of windows 95?
What can I do? Most important of all: is it worthwhile trying to find out what do do about it, or -knowing that I am not exactly a whizkid- will it inevitably be too complicated to repair?
Thanks a lot,
Patrick

I got exactly same problem. It happens after I crashed my C: drive and i had to reinstall all the programs. And, the point here is I did not install any program called Direct Draw at all......!!! I can't uninstall it, I can't install it because I don't have the software. I really don't know what I should do.

to find out the source of your problem:click-start,click-run,in the open box typ dxdiag.exe,click-display-header,click-test button of directdraw or direct3d and follow the instruction in the dialouge windows.then you will probably get the detailed information that most of your files are to old?.there is no uninstall for directx.so, what to do to get rid of the direct x problems? i fond a directx6.1-the most updated version on a free pcmagazin cdrom.that is probably the least expensive way to solve the problem.the other way is to go to www.microsoft.com/directx/default.asp or www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp.
good luck!

Find a full CD game like "small soldiers" it
normaly has a full version of DIRECT X.
and therfore you have paied for it.

exit windows to dos , find the directx dir
on the cd . find the file ddraw.dll and
note the size of it.
now go to your c:/windows/system dir find
ddraw.dll there and compare the size with
the one from the CD . If they are the same
you can delete the ddraw.dll in the windows
/system dir and then copy the one from the
CD to your windows/system dir.

That works here and no more expired D.DRAW

You must do it in DOS mode because windows
uses the file and when you try to delete it
windows says no.
