Hi, I also wanted to know how to setup a direct cable connection between two computers (for Diablo II, and Starcraft -mainly) but I'am unsure what to buy cable wise... I went to best buy and they said use a firewire. What is a firewire? What kind of cable do I need? If I get this and set it up how does it work? Do two computers dial into the internet, via LAN? I hope not because I have dial-up. ANY COMMENTS WILL HELP!

Purchase a LAN card for each PC and a 'crossover' ethernet cable.

Assuming they are in close proximity to one another and there is no network available, ham30's advice is excellent. If you don't want to spend the money - then using serial or parallel cables can be done, but mucho, mucho, mucho, etc., slower.

Here is non-network card instruction for Direct Cable Connect for Win95, should work with no problem on Win98:
