I have an old computer that I upgraded, put in another motherboard, it has on it an AMD K6 266 Mhz processor. It runs fine on 32 MB of SIMM memory, but I have tried to upgrade it to DIMM memory, I am trying to use 2-32MB sticks, it has 2 DIMM slots, the memory on that motherboard will go from 4MB-256MB. When I install the DIMM, there is no display and no beep when I turn it on. I took the memory completely out and I get a long beep, then a pause,another long beep and a pause and it just keeps going on like that. It is running at 66 Mhz. The DIMM is 4X64-10ns SDRAM PC100 168 pin DIMM Thanks in advance for ny help.

Yes, I did remove the SIMM. The reason I started it up with no memory was to troubleshoot. The motherboard manufacturers website, said to see i it beeps with no memory, said if there is no beep with no memory, then to try slowing down the CPU. It beeped with no memory. Thanks.

AMD is sensitive about memory-types.
Use only OEM-memory-types.
As I understand you probably got some DIMMs that are of no-OEM status.
If the DIMMS are brand new, run back to the shop and change them into;
64MB OEM PC-100.
That would work better for you....
Tip: If your MB+CPU handles the 100Mhz-bus, change into this and get another 15% more power to your comp....

Brenda,
You might have to change some jumpers on the motherboard to get the system to properly use the dimms instead of the simms. Depends a lot on the board. Also... might be possible that you need to use EDO DIMMS instead of standard DIMMS. What kind of board is it?
Ronin

The motherboard is manufactured by M Technology, the model number is MTI R-540, the web site is Mtiusa.com, all I could find on there is the jumper settings for that AMD CPU, I checked them, they are all correct. Is there anywhere on the CMOS that you have to enable the DIMM slots?
Thanks

Search for the MB-manual.
Inside that you'll find a picture showing you where possible pins and DIP-switches are.If your MB can handle no-pin setting(auto detect) you change the settings within the BIOS.
Note: Be certain you ONLY change what's written in the manual. There's a chance you can fry your comp. if your not experienced with BIOS. If you're not, try a reliable source (friend, neighbour, etc.) to help out...
