Comment: I put Win 98 on my Libretto notebook, and could not get it to boot up, except in safe mode. I had problems with uninstalling Win 98 on another computer, so on my libretto notebook, I decided to start all over by fdisk and formatting hd, so I could put Win 95 back in. I did the fdisk, but when it restarted, it shows the bios and memory, goes to the power on password, and after i enter the pw, it has a blinking cursor and nothing else!! How do I format the hard drive if I cant get to the command prompt!!
I have the utitlities disk for the libretto and the win 95 disk. What could be my problem? Help!!!!!!!!

Reply: (edit)1). Did you make a System Disk before F-Disking it?
2). I hope you didn't F-Disk the primary partition (c:\ drive ???????). !?!?!?!?!?!
3). You will need to put the SYSTEM files back onto the HD before you can do anything else, even try to resucitate your computer!
The system files are why you need the System Disk. Uhhhh, these are files like Command.COM, etc.
4). If you didn't make a System Disk...Oh Oh! Go make a copy of a System Disk to Floppy on another computer.
5). Get on another computer and the net and to Microsoft and search the Knowledge Base for a Q article on how to install Windows 95/98 without an operating system! I saw the Q article on the Knowledge Base, so it is there. You will have to do some studying and some thinking to get everything back up and running...essentially, if I understand your words correctly...you have just F-Disked your only Hard Disk, inluding your O/S in which case, I am not surprised you only have a blinking cursor! F-DISK is extremely dangerous...you can even loose access to your hard drive misusing it. Your only hope is to make a system disk and get the Q article(s) I have told you about to get back to where you were.....

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the reply Jim! No I don't have the system disk, so I will follow your suggestions. I was going to get a larger hard drive anyway, since it is only a 800mb in my libretto.
