I'm also getting the error, but it is caused by another app. See the error.

"WINOLDAP caused a general protection fault
in module DIBENG.DLL at 0003:00000fa0."

This comes from a Win95 workstation running Actuate ver3 and Progress 8.3A on a NT server, altough I don't think this is causing the problem.

Please let me know if you figure out this one...

I too am having problems with my dibeng.dll. Mine is causing errors in my scan disk and disk defrag as well as general protection fault errors in several programs. Since I can't defrag, I'm up to 5% frag and am getting a little worried as it's getting bigger. Can anyone help?

My home system has been doing the Dibeng.dll crash lately. Microsoft says its due to an incorrect or corrupt video driver. Here's a reference to their KnowledgeBase article on how to fix...

Hope this helps....

I'm having the same problem. My is with MS explorer 5.0. Microsoft states that it is a bad or corrupt video card. They state go to your video card manufactures web site and download a updated driver. They also say go to your contol panel and then display, settings and change to standard VGA if you can, this may fix the problem. It did not on mine. Good Luck.

This error is generally caused by badly written video drivers. Specifically the guy with the "WINOLDAP caused a general protection fault". This is a 16 bit application being run on a 32 bit operating system. I *know* there is a specific problem with the ATI Graphics cards and there is an updated driver specifically for this at their site (http://www.ati.com).
Hope this helps...

I do have same proteccion fault when I try to run programs as Cubase by Steinberg or adobe photoshop.I´m using Win95 in a pentium III.I have already visited the microsof site, but when I followed the instruccions I could´n get more than the 16 bit color opcion so I needed to turn back to the old video adapter configuration.
Can abyobe help me with the problem?

I get this error too, but in visual basic when I open a huge project. Its a display thingy? Try re-installing your video drivers. It started for me when i installed dx-7. *GLARES EVILY AT MICROSOFT* damn you!!! ;) hehe ok now :)

Anyway, reinstall video drivers and see what happens :)

Dibeng.dll problems in many differant apps-
like netscape- or when I try to run from a cd
in which case other un-nice things happen too.
I this really related to a video driver ?

My friend was getting the same problem with the DIBENG.DLL when running Scandisk or Defrag in windows. Then Windows would crash when trying to recover from the errors.
I took the advice of installing the latest video drivers, ATI Rage IIC, and his system no works like a champ.
I was also told by another friend that if you install AOL, it either changes or corrups the DIBENG.DLL and cause such problems.

Happens to me frequently. Either Iexplorer or explorer causes the fault. Happens about every 30 seconds on the internet. System seems stable until something goes to use any Internet Functionality. I've had this error, in ATI Winturbo, ATI Xpert98, and now very heavily in MY Creative 3D BLASTER TNT2. I don't buy Microsoft's garbage that its video driver related. All the most curent drivers for any of these cards exhibit the problem.

I have known bad video drivers or bad printer drivers to cause this error message with random programs. Try checking the video or printer manufacturers' sites for updated drivers. good luck. You will need it if you have an ATI card grrrr...

All you have to do is check your Video Drivers, and if you are on like 32 or 24 bit, then goto a less bit, like 16 bit. But, you could always buy a new computer. I like the new 750MHz, with 128mg of Ram, 32 mg of Video Ram.

I had the same problems with Winamp when running a VIS plug-in. Once the error occured I could not get winamp started anymore.
After changing my color palette to 16bit (it was 24bit) like told in response 22, winamp started again without having to reboot.

These errors are specific to ATI video cards and here is a fix on ATI's site:

http://support.atitech.com/infobase/2950.html

If all else fails, use an updated version of the application that is causing the error.

Or, get a different brand or model of video card. The Rage Pro drivers are a bit "flaky" at best.

Yes, I am also having problems with 'DIBENG.DLL'. My knowledge of computers has made me come to this conclusion. Like some have said, it's a problem with your video card/your drivers, 'DIBENG.DLL' handles your output to your video card. Now when your drivers are old Windows gets confused and has problems send information. 'DIBENG.DLL' is a real problem with the cards: Avance Logic and ATI. 3 solutions: 1. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q235/6/18.asp 2.Type DIBENG.DLL at any search engine and download newest version 3. Buy new video card. If you need anymore info contact me at E-Mail included or ICQ:77539070. Hope I have helped you all!
