Dial-Up Bytes Sent/Received Info

Comment:
Whenever I open up a dial-up connection, I start seeing bytes received and sent before I open up my browser. I understand that some of this info might be data being sent because of cookies, programs which send out data, etc. However, is there a way to determine EXACTLY what is being sent and received and from where?

I forgot to mention that I use McAfee ActiveShield which constantly searches for and removed viruses and I also scan regularly, so there is a very slim chance of my computer being infected.

You can use the Show Details function of your Dialup dialog box to display bytes sent and received. Not from who, where, when though.

I've checked "Show Details". That's how I realized that it seems as if there is a lot of data being transmitted back and forth before I even open up my browser. I'd like to know whats causing the huge amount of data transfer.

http://www.lavasoft.de/ Download the free ad aware program and run it. It finds and removes all spyware, which might be causing your problem.

Well, there's also a remote possibility that your machine could be hosting a trojan. Are you using a firewall? If not, I suggest you get one at www.zonelabs.com, and also try running your virus scanner and/or a trojan cleaner on your system just to be sure. If you're not surfing the net and yet "mass" data transfer is happening...it sounds like your machine is being used as a server, which can also be spyware as well.
