dial up troubles

a user on our ISP continues to get a username/password error when he dials in. we've dialed in with his info from the office and it works fine. we've set up a fresh new connection on his computer, and he gets the same error. any ideas?

Set up a new account using another ISP, username etc. He could have an installation problem in which case you need to remove everything related to comms and reinstall it using the Win98 CD.

Here's what I would do (and have done) in the same situation: Remove the connectoid for the connection. Remove the network components from Network Config. in Control Panel. Uninstall Dial-Up Networking. Do a search for *.pwl and erase all the files. Reboot the computer. Reinstall DUN and the network components. Recreate the connectoid in DUN. Reenter his username and password in Internet Properties. Cross your fingers and try the connection!:)

I'm a total computer dummy but had the same problem. The guy who fixed my computer for me found out that it was nothing more than the plug! An earthed plug gives no problems logging on, a non-earthed plug does!
