ALlright my windows 98 computer recently deleated windows On its own accord and it stopped booting. I thought this might be a hard drive Failure. Heres the exzact error messages Invaild Pri Master HDD error run setup and then Insert boot disk from floppy. I downloaded THe diagnostic tools and found something. I dont know what it means. Heres what i found out

Hitachi_Dk238a73 Hard drive
Write Chache DIsabled
Autoresign Disabled
Smart Disabled ( cant enable it in Options)
Error 71 (when preform a basic Test)
Error 71 was a Inactive drive.
Also in finding the parts in autofind at the beggining It found Pri Master HDD and didnt find Pri Master Slave. Which i assume is a big part of it. I cant enable any of these things. And i cant Replace the hardive because when i take off the case Half the wires would snap in half because it was built very stupidly. Any help would be apperciated THanks =)

I'd say.

Sorry, but when the poster claims they can't get to the a: drive after booting from a floppy, or decides halfway through to explain that they'd received hard drive error messages, I begin to lose hope.

I'm just looking for clues at the scene of the crime

As recommended in the previous thread, run fdisk and either post back the option 4 results or post back the error message you get.

Hey Dan, JBoy, DAVE and Need Help,

For starters, Dan, um, LOLOLOLOL, I read the post on that link you posted. Jboy, Should have put my pads on first! The floor 'really' hurts when it jumps up on me like that! :)

Need Help, I really don't think I can offer much to your problem than recommendations in the link mentioned by Dan. Primarily, you really need to determin the working status of your hard drive in order to even think about fixing the o/s and software problem you have.
